Women’s basketball unveils 2023-24 schedule

| By:
BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team revealed its 2023-24 schedule on Monday, which includes 11 games that will be played on the Eagle's home court, Newman Gymnasium.

Husson will open its schedule on Nov. 11 and 12 when the team competes in the Tyler Tip-off, which will be played at Smith College in Northampton, Mass, with the Eagles playing Rowan University in their opening matchup, followed by a matchup the next day against either Smith College or Keene State College.

Smith College and Rowan University each made the NCAA Division III Tournament last season, with Smith compiling a record of 30-2 before falling in the Final Four to the eventual National Champions, Transylvania University.

"I feel we put together one of our strongest, non-conference schedules to date," said head women's basketball coach Kissy Walker. "Our team is composed of a number of players who have been in our program for three or four years now and we are ready to be tested. Our mindset will be that anyone on our schedule is beatable."

The team will travel to the University of Southern Maine on Nov. 15, before playing its home-opener on Nov. 18 against Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the Husson Sports Hall of Fame Game.

Husson will host a New England Small College Athletic Conference foe in Bates College on Nov. 28, before beginning North Atlantic Conference play the ensuing weekend when it travels to Lyndonville, Vermont. to play a two-game road series with Vermont State University Lyndon on Dec. 1 and 2.

The Eagles will play their NAC home-opener on Dec. 7 against the defending NAC Champions Maine Maritime Academy and will look to avenge a loss to the Mariners that ended their season last year.

Husson will resume play after a three-week hiatus when it competes in the Florida Sunshine Shootout in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Eagles will take on Salve Regina University for the first time in 13 years and just the second time overall when the two teams clash on Dec. 28. Husson will take on NESCAC powerhouse Amherst College Dec. 30 to conclude its participation in the shootout. Amherst has made the NCAA Division III Tournament every year since 2007 and has won three national championships during that stretch, including back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.

The Eagles will return home on Jan. 2 and will play host to Bowdoin College, before playing in their final road non-conference contest of the year when they travel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Jan. 6.

Husson will then begin a three-game conference road trip that starts on Jan. 8 when it travels to the University of Maine at Farmington. The Eagles will conclude their road trip the ensuing weekend when they travel to Vermont State University Johnson on Jan. 12, followed by a trip to Canton, N.Y. to take on SUNY Canton the next day.

The team returns home on Jan. 17, when it plays its final NESCAC opponent of the regular season as Colby College will make the trip up Interstate-95 to Bangor. Husson then plays its return game at Maine Maritime Academy on Jan. 22, which is followed by a home conference matchup with the University of Maine-Presque Isle the following night.

The Eagles will then play a weekend series with Thomas College starting on Jan. 26 when they travel to Waterville, followed by an afternoon contest on the 27th when the Terriers make the trip to Newman Gymnasium.

Husson will play one final non-conference contest on Jan. 30 when the University of Maine at Fort Kent makes the trip down from Aroostook County. The team will then play host to the University of Maine at Farmington on Feb. 2.

The Eagles will conclude their road schedule for the regular season on Feb. 6 when they travel to the University of Maine-Presque Isle and will conclude their regular season on Feb. 9 and 10 when Lesley University travels to Newman Gymnasium for a two-game series.
