Men's swimming & diving sweeps triple-dual meet on the road against Elms, Gordon and Saint Joseph's (Maine)

STANDISH, Maine - The Husson University men's swimming & diving team won three-of-three dual meets in a triple-dual event against Elms College, Gordon College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon inside the Alfond Center pool on the campus of Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

The Eagles won by scores of 128-29 over the Monks, 131-37 over the Fighting Scots and 133-0 over the Blazers. Husson posted eight individual wins and 17 top-3 finishes.

Kicking off the Eagles' individual wins was sophomore Hunter Jackson in the 1650-yard freestyle, who the event with a time of 18:56.65.

The Eagles momentum carried into the 200-yard freestyle with a sweep of the top-2 finishes. Graduate student Joe Vail won with a time of 1:57.20 and sophomore Isaias Therio (2:01.20) followed in second. 

Freshman Alex Walsh earned another victory for the Eagles in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 24.12. Ending his two-win outing, Walsh (57.69) also won the 100-yard backstroke.

The Eagles tallied a 1-2-3 event sweep in the 200-yard individual medley were graduate student Steven Johnston (2:09.56) in first, freshman Ryan Emerson (2:10.05) in second and sophomore Nathan Gilliam took third with a time of 2:16.95. 

Freshman Sam Peiser picked up his first career individual victory of his career when he hit the wall first in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 25.89.

Therio and senior Andrew Cote posted another 1-2 finish for the Eagles in the 100-yard freestyle. Therio won the event with a 54.91 and Cote swam a 56.23.

Johnston, freshman Chris Salvatore and Peiser earned the Eagles their second 1-2-3 finish of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle. Johnston won the event with a time of 5:30.57, while Salvatore (5:47.05) and Pesier (5:59.96) finished second and third, respectively.

The Eagle relay 'A' squads won the 200-yard medley relay (Johnston, Emerson, Peiser and Cote) with a time of 1:48.02 and swam exhibition in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Jackson, freshman Brayden Champlin, Therio and Salvatore) posting a time of 3:40.87.

Husson returns the pool on Sunday, January 15 when they travel to Wenham, Mass. for a dual meet with Gordon College. The first race of the meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
