Women's swimming & diving remains undefeated with sweep of double-meet at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - Junior Kayla Payson's three individual wins help lead the Husson University women's swimming & diving team to victories over host Gordon College (131-109) and Regis College (142-56) this afternoon in a double-dual meet at the Bennett Center Natatorium in Wenham, Mass. The Eagles improve to 9-0 on the season, while Gordon falls to 4-7, including a 155-62 win over Regis. Regis is now 5-10 on the season.

Husson placed first over both Gordon and Regis in nine of 14 events.

Payson continued her dominance in the 1000-yard freestyle with an easy victory on a time of 11:37.36 to win the race by more than 30 seconds for the Eagles. She showed her prowess in two sprint events as well with a triumph in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:00.28 clip and in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 29.28.

Graduated student Ava Emery and sophomore Erin Madden each had a pair of victories on the day for the Eagles. Emery touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.11 and later placed second in the 50-yard butterfly, but also earned a win over Gordon in the 100-yard breaststroke a mark of 1:18.89. Madden picked up her victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.04) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:50.34).

Sophomore Rachel Hand earned the Eagles' final individual victory of the meet by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.37, while placing second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 31.63.

Payson led off the exhibition 200-yard freestyle relay for the Eagles, followed by senior Hannah Soutter, Madden and senior Sydney Jordan to combine on a time of 1:58.14. Senior Abbie Howe swam the leading backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay with Madden swimming the breaststroke followed by Emery on the butterfly and Hand anchoring on the freestyle leg to earn the victory in the meet's opening event.

Husson returns to the pool on Saturday, January 21 when it travels to Plymouth, N.H. to take on Plymouth State University and Norwich University at 11:00 a.m.
