WORCESTER, Mass. — The Husson University volleyball team split its season opener against Worcester Polytechnic Institute and SUNY Delhi on Saturday.
WPI (1-0) took the season opener against Husson 3-0, 25-15, 25-9 and 25-19, senior
Cheyenne Young led the Eagles with six kills while sophomore
Alexa Beal and
Julia Leavitt each had four kills apiece.
Sophomore
Alyvia McIntyre finished with 15 assists and nine digs while graduate student
Amber Lemay tallied a game-high 12 digs.
Husson (1-1) didn't waste time getting on the board in the second game of its opening weekend, winning the first set 25-18 before SUNY Delhi (0-2) evened the match 1-1 with a 25-19 set two win.
The Eagles matches Delhi's 25-19 set win with their own 25-19 set three win to pick up a 2-1 advantage before winning the match with a 15-18 set four score.
Beal finished with a team-high nine kills while freshman
Sara White added nine kills and Leavitt tallied eight.
McIntyre recorded a 33-assist, 10-dig double-double as four Eagles finished with double-digit digs passed by Lemay's 15 and Young's 13.
Additionally, graduate student
Adrienne Beatty and McIntyre each recorded three service aces apiece.
Head coach
Alex Gordon picked up his first collegiate victory with the win.
Husson returns to the court on Tuesday when it challenges Bates College on the road at 6 p.m.
