LEWISTON, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team made the trip to Bates College as they fell 3-0 in the non-conference fixture at Russell Street Track and Field on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the Bobcats (3-1) that opened the scoring in the 27th minute when the ball was delivered out wide to Bobby Dall who delivered the ball into the box which was knocked down by the Eagles (2-3) defense but only to the feet of Ciaran Bardong he smashed the rebound underneath Ben Powell from 10 yards.
It was 1-0 lead at the break as The second Bobcats goal came shortly after. Some good forward pressure saw three lose balls end up at the feet of Tife Agunloye who laid the ball across to the incoming run of Gerard Costa Farre who tucked home from close range. The Bobcats added icing on the cake with 25 seconds left by converting a penalty beyond the outreached hand of senior
Benjamin Powell.
"It wasn't a very good performance from us again tonight," said head coach
Gavin Penny. "We started the game very positive and moved the ball well. We got into good areas of the field but wasn't able to create anything from our sequences. Bates are a solid team, they worked very hard to pin us back and stop us playing and they got their rewards for their efforts. Of course we are disappointed, but these opportunities are great learning moments for us. We need games like this to help us learn and continue to improve. There is so much we can take out of today's game. It was a good effort, but we couldn't match their level once we fell behind. The goal calmed them down and they stepped it up a notch. It just wasn't our day. We don't have time to hang our heads, we have a massive game in three days."
The massive game on Saturday for the men's soccer team will be their home opener as the Eagles take on Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference fixture at Boucher Field with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
