Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island College swept Husson University in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Anchormen walked off with a 6-4 win in the opener and picked up a 10-4 triumph in the nightcap.
The Eagles took a 4-1 lead after six on a pair of sophomore Jackson Curtis two-run homers to left field in game one. The Anchormen battled back to tie the game, 4-4, in the seventh on a sophomore Sean Helfrich RBI sacrifice fly. Sophomore Cameron Santerre walked with one down in the home half of the ninth and first-year Daniel Trzepacz followed with the game-winning longball.
Senior Cam Graham started the game for Husson (8-14) and struck out three in three innings of work, while allowing only three hits. Sophomore Harrison Lendrum, senior Jake Gregoire, first-year Matt Wallingford and sophomore Ryan Robb each made an appearance in relief for the Eagles. Robb (1-2) took the loss.
Sophomore Andrew Sears allowed five hits and four earned runs in six innings of work for Rhode Island College (18-6-1). First-year Cameron Foster pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the win (1-0).
Santerre started game two off by hitting a home run, which gave the Anchormen an early, 1-0, advantage. RIC would score three runs in the fourth, with sophomore Izaiah Rivera knocking in a pair with a two-run double. The hosts would repeat their scoring output in the bottom of the fifth inning when Helfrich cleared the bases with a double to put RIC on top by seven, 7-0. Husson would plate two runs in the seventh thanks to the first career home run by first-year Ty Knowlton.
Sophomore Chris Naylor (0-3) was the losing pitcher after allowing one earned run off two hits in one inning of work. Sophomore Jackson Thayer, sophomore Alex Smith, first-year Ryne Rametta, senior Evan Holzworth, senior Hunter O'Connor, sophomore Ryan Penney, first-year Bradley McLaughlin and sophomore Zain Fitzsimmons all saw game action in relief for Husson.
Junior Connor Davey (4-2) earned the win for Rhode Island College, allowing two earned runs off five hits in seven innings.
Junior Joshua Scott batted a combined for 3-for-7 on the day with a pair of doubles and runs with an RBI.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, April 18th for a single nine inning game at Bowdoin College. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
