Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Husson University women's basketball jumped out to a 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and coasted to a 73-49 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon to remain undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference on Saturday afternoon.
Husson (14-4, 10-0 NAC) scored the first basket of the game on a layup from sophomore Trinity Montigny and never trailed for the remainder of the game. NVU-Lyndon (7-9, 2-7 NAC) would get as close as ten during the second quarter, but the Eagles stretched the lead to 42-24 at the halftime break.
The two teams played to an evenly-matched half after the intermission as Husson outscored the Hornets by a 31-25 margin.
The Eagles were led by junior Bailey Donovan, who tallied a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double in the win. Senior Vanessa Duarte also scored in double-figures for Husson as she tallied 10 points and a team-high five assists. Freshman Roxanne Sasse shot three-for-three from three-point land to record nine points off the bench for the Eagles as well.
Husson dominated the glass as they outrebounded NVU-Lyndon 56-24 in addition to shooting nearly 48% from the field.
The Eagles return to the hardwood on Tuesday as they host Bowdoin College, who are receiving votes in the latest top 25 coaches poll, in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
