Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Husson University men's basketball team combined balance scoring and a strong rebounding presence to roll past Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 92-66 in North Atlantic Conference play on Friday evening.
Husson (11-7, 8-1 NAC) and NVU-Lyndon (5-13, 2-6 NAC) traded leads for the opening six minutes of Friday's conference meeting before the Eagles went on a 36-13 run to close out the first half.
Sophomore Jared Balser and senior Justice Kendall lead the way for Husson in the opening frame with eight points apiece while senior's DJ Bussey and Brett Cunningham added six points and five points, respectively.
The Hornets would keep it close in the second half, playing the Eagles to 46-43 over the final 20 minutes, but the damage had been done early as Husson picked up the 99-66 win to improve to 8-1 in conference play.
Graduate senior Justin Thompson led the way with a team-high 14 points, 10 of which came in the second half and matched a game-high with four assists. Kendall added 13 points and Balser finished with a career-high 13 while Bussey and sophomore Jeremy Moronta each scored in double figures with 11 points apiece.
Husson dominated the boards on Friday finishing with a 63-43 margin while scoring 22 points off turnovers, 23 points off its fastbreak and controlling a 56-26 points in the paint discrepancy.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they look to pick up a weekend conference sweep on NVU-Lyndon.
