Box Score BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team earned its 16th win of the season and remained unblemished in North Atlantic Conference play with a 78-30 win over Thomas College on Thursday night.
Husson (16-4, 11-0 NAC) jumped out to a 26-7 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back. The Eagles, who earned their 31st straight win over Thomas (2-17, 1-9 NAC), would continue their high-scoring first half in the second period as they outscored the Terriers 24-10 to make their lead 50-17 at halftime.
Husson showcased some impressive three-point shooting during the first half, as they shot a red-hot 10-14 from beyond the arc. Senior Vanessa Duarte led the Eagles with 14 points, including four 3's, while junior Bailey Donovan added 11 points and seven rebounds. In addition to the Eagles hot shooting, they also dished out 15 assists in the half, including four from junior Cassie Urso.
Husson outscored Thomas 28-13 in the second half to put away the game.
The Eagles were led by Duarte, who tallied 20 points on the evening and connected on six three-point field goals. In addition, Donovan recorded yet another double-double for Husson, with a 15-point, 11-rebound performance. Sophomore Makaelyn Porter and Urso each scored in double-figures as well, tallying 12 and 11 respectively, while combining to shoot 5-6 from beyond the arc.
Prior to the start of the game, Husson honored its five senior team-members, Urso, Duarte, Megan Peach, Sydney Allen, and student-assistant coach Amanda D'Amico.
The Eagles will close out their regular season schedule on Saturday, as they travel to Castine to take on Maine Maritime Academy. Tip-off is at 3:00 p.m.
