WORCESTER, Mass. — The Husson University men's basketball team fell to No. 13 Worcester Polytechnic Institute 76-49 on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Husson (2-5) and WPI (6-1) traded baskets over the opening seven minutes on Wednesday showdown with the Eagles leading 10-9 with 14:04 remaining, before the Engineers rolled off a 6-0 run to take a 16-10 advantage with 12:18 remaining.
The Eagles would keep the deficit as long as five points over the final 12 minutes, but WPI benefited from a late first half run to take a 41-25 lead into the break.
The Engineers opened the second half with another run, taking a 20-point led before Husson cut the deficit back to 13 with just over 10 minutes remaining, but the deficit was too much as WPI earned the 76-49 decision.
Junior
Jeremy Moronta finished with a team-high 13 points, adding three assists, while junior
Scott Lewis tallied 11 points and four rebounds on 5-8 shooting. Freshman
Eric Ahlers added seven points and a team-high six rebounds, while graduate student
Justice Kendall recorded a team-high four assists.
The Eagles will look to get back into the win column on Friday when they host New England College at 6 p.m.
