BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University field hockey team scored twice in the first quarter and that was all they needed as they defeated New England College by the final score of 2-1 for their third overall New England Collegiate Conference championship. The Eagles finished the season at 11-5 as well as on a seven game winning stream as New England College ended their season 12-7.

In front of a sizable crowd at the Winkin Sports Complex; it didn't take long for the Eagles to get on the board. Senior Leigha Carrier drove down the right side of the field and delievered a perfect cross to junior Teagan Blackie who tucked the ball home past the goalie just five minutes into the contest.

Minutes later, senior Juila Murch doubled the lead for the green and gold. Freshman Maddie Perkins was cleaned out by a Pilgrims' player who was sent off for a two minute penalty and the Eagles earned a penalty corner. Murch delievered the corner to the top of the circle as it was passed around before Blackie, on the ground, tipped the ball towards net and Murch was at the back door to tuck it home.

The Eagles carried a 2-0 lead into the locker room and it stayed that way before the Pilgrims responded late in the third quarter. Martina Hill provided hope for New England College heading into the final quarter but senior Kimmie Goddard and the Eagles defense shut the door for the 2-1 victory.

Senior Katie Perkins was named most vaulable player of the tournament as she joined Blackie, Goddard, Carrier, and senior Mallory Fairbanks on the All-Tournament team.

With the victory, that will conlude the season for the field hockey team.
