BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team fell in extra time of the North Atlantic Conference championship game to SUNY Delhi, 3-2, at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.
After 90 minutes, the game finished 2-2. It took until the seventh minute for the Eagles (11-7-1) to find the opener as the aggressive press by the Eagles forced a turnover and sophomore Natalie Aviolla found senior Charlotte Messer in the box who put home the opening goal.
SUNY Delhi (9-6-4)found the leveler in the 55th minute but the Eagles responded quickly after when Aviolla executed a perfect counter attack as she beat two defenders on a 65-yard run and beat the keeper to make it 2-1 Husson. However, the Broncos were able to tie the game again as Shaniyah Myers put the ball home in the 90th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Madison Weigler made a couple huge saves in goal to preserve the game at two after regulation.
The Broncos scored the winner in the 98th minute when Olivia LeBrun put home a header to give SUNY Delhi the conference title.
With the defeat, the season has come to a close for the women's soccer season.
