Men's Swimming & Diving falls to Maine Maritime Academy on the road

CASTINE, Maine - The Husson men's swimming & diving team battled all afternoon, but fell on the road to Maine Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon inside Bok Pool, 161-117.

The Eagles opened up the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay when the group of freshman Alex Walsh, graduate student Joe Vail, graduate student Steven Johnston and freshman Ryan Emerson touched the wall with a new school record time of 1:43.14. Walsh continued the hot start for Husson as he won the 1000 free by clocking in at 10:49.15 smashing the MMA's Bok Pool record by 13 seconds. Walsh also won the 200 back later in the afternoon, recording a time of 2:06.21.

Johnston followed with a win in the 100 free, topping Maine Maritime's sophomore Carson Trout by .20 hundredths of a second for nine team points and the victory with a 49.67 for a new Bok Pool record.

Vail rounded out the swimming events' victories for the Eagles as he touched the wall in Bok Pool record fashion of 2:28.50 to pick up the win in the 200 breaststroke by .18 hundredths of a second over Mariners' freshman Aidan Burke. Sophomore Matt Steeves won the five-dive one-meter optionals with 113.80 points and the six-dive round with a total of 183.80 points.

The closes race of the men's meet happen in the 100 back when MMA's junior Cameron Sprott beat Emerson by .04 hundredths of second to the win the event.

The Eagle men return to the pool next Saturday when they host the Eastern Connecticut State University men's swimming & diving team for the first time inside Webber Pool. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
