BANGOR, Maine - Husson University men's swimming & diving team extended their home dual meet winning streak to five with a dominant 225-41 victory over Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday evening at Webber Pool.
Prior to today's swim meet the HU men's swimming & diving program held a brief ceremony to honor the team's two seniors: Spencer Bernat and Andrew Cote.
Husson (3-1) took a lead early against the Chargers (1-5) and never looked back. Husson went on to win 15 out of the 16 events.
Husson opened the meet off by winning the 200-yard medley relay with graduate students Steven Johnston and Joe Vail, sophomore Hunter Jackson and Cote coming in with a time of 1:47.27. Freshman Jacob Brown, junior Ben Carusi, sophomore Isaias Therio and freshman Chris Salvatore took second place in the event.
Husson freshman Alex Walsh captured the 1000-yard freestyle with a blistering time of 10:53.24. Next, Salvatore took home the 200-yard freestyle for the Eagles with a 2:05.78. Therio picked up the victory in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.07.
The Eagles continued their winning ways in the 50-yard breaststroke event with Carusi taking the event with a time of 32.67 followed by freshman Sam Peiser with a 33.79. Freshman Jacob Ramos earned his first career collegiate victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.92. Johnston won the 50-yard freestyle event swimming a 22.54 before Bernat closed out the first half of the events by collecting the win in the five-dive one-meter optionals with a pool record 164.45 points. Sophomore Matt Steeves took second in the event with 146.70 points, while freshman Jordan Bartlett finished third with 93.75 points.
After the break freshman Brayden Champlin was narrowly out touched by Colby-Sawyer's freshman Tristen Leys in the 100-yard freestyle. Leys hit the wall in 52.48 to picked up the lone victory for the Chargers, while Champlin swam a 52.75. Vail continued Husson's winning ways, taking the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.11. Freshman Ryan Emerson picked up his first win of the day for the Eagles in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.22.
Salvatore would also earn another win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:33.74. Johnston picked the his second victory of the meet in the 50-yard butterfly with a mark of 24.50. Bernat earned his second diving triumph of the day with a point total of 202.50 in the six-dive one-meter event. Steeves finished second with a 156.25 and Bartlett took home third with 90.60 total points.
In the penultimate event Walsh swam a 1:00.42 to score another victory this time in the 100-yard individual medley. Husson closed out the day with the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cote, Johnston, Jackson and Peiser swam a 1:35.80 to the win the event.
The Eagles return on Friday, December 2 when they travel to Colby College for the first day of the 2022 State of Maine Collegiate Championship Meet.
