BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field with a 2-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on senior day.
It didn't take long for the Eagles (12-3-2, 8-0-1 NAC) to open the scoring as they were able to fire shot after shot on goal in the first six minutes of the match before freshman Carlos Etchevers was finally able to break the deadlock. The pressure was continued to be put on the Mariners (5-9-1, 4-4-1 NAC) goal as the Eagles fired 19 shots but it would remain 1-0 at halftime.
The second half saw much of the same as the found the insurance goal in the 47th minute when a corner kick from Etchevers found the toe of senior Kiko Sanchez who tucked home his second collegiate goal.
Sophomore Alexander Rechsteiner made one save to keep the clean sheet for the Eagles.
""The lads put in a solid performance today," said head coach Gavin Penny. "We were in control of the game from the first moment and moved the ball really well. It was a great way to end another great regular season, and an awesome way to honor our seniors. We were happy to secure the #1 overall seed again so that we can be at home with our fans. Special shout-out to our lady counterparts for also securing the #1 overall seed. It was a great day for Husson soccer."
The men's soccer team will await their postseason fate as the North Atlantic Conference will announce the postseason bracket by the end of today.
