JOHNSON, Vt. — The Husson University volleyball team stunned Northern Vermont University-Johnson 3-2 in five sets on Sunday in North Atlantic Conference action.
NVU-Johnson (7-10, 1-5 NAC) took a 1-0 advantage following a 25-20 set one victory on Sunday, but the Eagles rebounded with a 25-20 set two win of their own to even the match 1-1.
The Badgers regained momentum with a 25-19 set three win, but Husson (10-8, 5-1 NAC) who has shown resilience all season long didn't go down without a fight winning the fourth set 25-17 to force a deciding five set.
NVU-Johnson opened up a 6-4 advantage in the first set, however, Husson used a 5-0 run to take a 9-6 edge, before later opening up an 11-8 lead.
The Eagles managed to get the match to 14-10 needing just one point to pick up the road win.
The Badgers pulled within 14-12 of Husson, but sophomore
Alexa Beal tallied the final point of the match on a kill giving the Eagles a 5-1 conference record.
Sophomore
Julia Leavitt led the Eagles with a game-high 13 kills, while senior
Cheyenne Young tallied eight kills and Beal finished with nine.
Graduate student
Amber Lemay finished with a season-high 27 digs, while sophomore
Alyvia McIntyre recorded 27 assists and 12 digs. Additionally, graduate student
Adrienne Beatty posted a game-high five service aces.
The Eagles return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Castine, Maine with first place in the NAC on-the-line when they battle conference preseason favorite Maine Maritime Academy at 7 p.m.
