BANGOR, Maine — Senior Vanessa Duarte scored a game-high in Husson University women's basketball's 62-45 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference action on Friday.

Husson (7-4, 5-0 NAC) benefitted from 10 of Duarte's 17 points in the opening quarter of Friday's conference clash to control a 24-9 advantage at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles continued their first quarter success into the second quarter with balanced scoring all around to take a 39-20 lead into the break.

UMF (6-5, 1-2 NAC) looked to pull the game within single digits, pulling within 41-28 of the Eagles, but junior Bailey Donovan finished with six of her 14 points in the third quarter to push that advantage to 53-32.

The Beavers would outscore Husson 13-9 in the final quarter, but the damage had been done early as the Eagles picked up the 62-45 win.

Donovan finished with a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double, adding a game-high four blocks.

Duarte tallied six rebounds to go along with her 17 points, while senior Megan Peach finished with seven points and seven rebounds. 

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they battle UMF on the road at 5 p.m.
