NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Cheyenne Young had a match high 12 kills as the Husson University women's volleyball team won its second straight match, a 3-0 sweep over Albertus Magnus College (0-2) at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles swept the match by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.  But later in the day, Suffolk University (1-1) swept the Eagles (2-1) by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23.

In the opening set of the match with host Albertus Magnus, the Eagles jumped out to a 10-3 lead and held off the Falcons to win the match. Newcomer Julia Leavitt led the Eagles to the first set win as she recorded kills for the last two points.

In the second set, Husson got off to another quick start and grabbed an 8-3 advantage. The Eagles led by as many as 12 points at 21-9 on their way to their second set victory.

The Eagles were hard-pressed to complete the sweep as Albertus Magnus raced to a 6-2 early lead in the third set, forcing the Eagles to come from behind. Husson finally caught the Falcons at 13-13 and took a 21-19 lead on a kill by Leavitt. But the Falcons bounced back and owned a 22-21 lead when Coach Pat DeBeck called time out. Husson responded by scoring the final four points of the match to win by a 25-22 margin. Back-to-back kills by senior Karimah Land gave the Eagles a 23-22 lead. A kill by Young upped the advantage to 24-22 before Leavitt's service ace clinched the match.

Young hit .545 in the victory with 12 kills in 22 attempts while Leavitt recorded nine kills. Land added eight kills, including the two vital kills in the third set.

Senior Adrienne Beatty paced Husson with 12 digs while first-year setter Alyvia McIntyre had 31 assists.

In the first set against Suffolk, Husson trailed 5-1 before reeling off six straight points for a 7-6 lead to force a timeout. The last lead for the Eagles was a 11-9 after a block by Land. Suffolk later pulled away with a 5-1 run to take the set, 25-19.

The Rams stormed out to a 10-1 advantage in the second set. The Eagles pulled to within six (12-6) highlighted by two kills by Young. Suffolk led by as many as 14 at 23-9 before Husson pulled closer with a 6-1 run thanks in part to a service and kill by Emily Wheeler. But an Alina Nowakowski kill wrapped up the 25-15 Suffolk win in Set Two.

Husson looked to extend the match in an extremely tight third set. This set featured 13 ties, including the last at 20-20. A kill by Young gave the Eagles a 20-19 lead, but the Rams scored four straight points to inch closer to victory. But a kill by senior Sophia Pagliarini followed by an attack error brought the margin down to one (23-22). The teams traded points as Suffolk called a timeout trailing 24-23, but Suffolk's Julia Leavey made a remarkable dig in the back to keep the final volley alive, and the Rams won the point and set, 25-23, for the 3-0 sweep.

Young led the Eagles with eight kills, while Leavitt and senior Amber Lemay each had five digs. Young and senior Sophia Pagliarini each hit .250 and three of Land's four blocks were solos. McIntyre had 18 assists in this match.
