Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Brooke Carson scored two goals in the opening minutes of the second half as the Southern Maine field hockey team edged the Husson University Eagles by a 4-1 margin at Hannaford Field on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Huskies improved to 3-4 on the season while the Eagles fall to 0-4.
The teams played on even terms throughout the first half and went to intermission tied at 1-1.
Senior Samantha Ellis gave the Huskies a quick 1-0 lead just 2:35 into the game. But the Eagles came back to tie the contest less than eight minutes later.
Junior Adelle Foss scored the game-tying goal at the 9:12 mark as she picked off a pass in the offensive zone, drove down the right side, and centered a pass in front of the goal that was deflected in by the Huskies. It was her fourth goal in as many games.
In the first half, Southern Maine outshot Husson by a 5-2 margin but Husson goalkeeper Kimmie Goddard made four saves.
However, the Huskies exploded for three goals in the opening minutes of the second half to take control of the contest and win, 4-1.
Husson outshot Southern Maine by an 11-10 margin Goalkeeper Julianna Kiklis made five saves for the Huskies while Goddard finished with four saves.
Husson has their first home game of the season on Saturday, September 25th when they host New England College in a New England Collegiate Conference match at 6:00 p.m.on Homecoming Weekend.
