Box Score HENNIKER, NH – Host New England College came from behind for a 3-1 field hockey victory over visiting Husson University at Don Melander Field Saturday afternoon. The Pilgrims improved to 6-1 overall and won their opener in the New England Collegiate Conference, while the Eagles fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NECC.
The Pilgrims had a 38-8 shot advantage and 26-5 in shots on goal. Husson junior goalkeeper Kimmie Goddard made 22 saves on the day, while Ellie Philben stopped four for New England.
Husson opened the scoring at 18:29 as junior Adelle Foss scored her team-leading third goal of the young season. But at 33:13, Avirara Challinor tied it at 1-1 for the Pilgrims, and Lilli McCormack assisted on the play. Just over 10 minutes later, at 43:26, Drea Chin gave the hosts their first lead of the day. Giuliana Kevlin set up Chin for the goal that gave NEC the 2-1 lead.
Alivia Proulx added insurance for the Pilgrims, as Mikayla Vincent assisted on Proulx's goal at 54:33 that provided the eventual final score, 3-1.
Chin led all players with 10 shots, including eight on goal, and Vincent had five of her seven shots on the cage. Junior Katie Perkins led Husson with two shots.
The Eagles are back in action for a non-league contest. Husson will play at Southern Maine on Thursday, September 23, under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
