Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Husson men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season with a 3-0 loss to the #11th-ranked Bowdoin Polar Bears on Tuesday evening at Pickard Field. Husson is now 3-1-1 and Bowdoin goes to 3-0.
The Polar Bears started the scoring in the 10th minute when Drake Bryd scored on a penalty kick.
The best chance of the first half for the Eagles came in the 24th minute when an Eagles freekick was taken and settled down by Rafael Paganoni from outside the box and his volley was saved by Bowdoin's Michael Webber.
Despite the Eagles having the ball for most of the second half; Bowdoin doubled the lead against the run of play as the Eagles couldn't clear the ball out of the box and Charlie Ward poked home the pass from Xander Cardia in the 68th minute.
Ben Powell kept the Eagles in the game with six saves, but the Polar Bears put the game to bed in the 83rd minute from Minseo Bae to make the final score, 3-0 Bowdoin.
Head coach Gavin Penny after the game: "Today was a tough loss for us. They were a very strong and competent team who made it very difficult for us. I was happy with our competitiveness, especially in the second half. It was a good experience for us to test ourselves against a top notch side. The result did not go the way we wanted but I felt we battled hard and tried to stay in the game. We were very unfortunate with the first goal. I'm not quite sure how a foul can be given when our player has the ball at his feet. Nonetheless, we learn from this and move on. We have a couple of busy weekends coming up that we need to prepare for.."
The two game road trip ends for the squad on Sunday, September 19th as they head to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a noon kick-off.
