Box Score GORHAM, Maine - After nearly a year and a half hiatus from competition for the Husson Eagles, the women's volleyball team (0-1) hit the court strong in the opening set against the Unviersity of Southern Maine (2-0), nearly catching up with the Huskies after falling behind early in the opening set, 25-18. The Huskies took two more sets from the Eagles as Husson fell 3-0 on Thursday evening in non-conference spring season action.

After falling behind, 6-0, in the opening serves by Southern Maine, the Husson Eagles started to find a rhythm after Cheyenne Young put a kill on the board and the duo of Sophia Pagliarini and Karimah Land blocked an attempt by the Huskies. Husson quickly began to build a counterattack, catching back up within two points (13-9) after trailing 11-2. Despite an eight-kill effort from the Eagles along with a service ace from Pagliarini, Husson fell behind, 25-18, as they dropped the first set.
The Huskies took immediate control of the second set with a 25-7 win, but Husson put up a fight in the third round as the Eagles seized their first lead of the day thanks to a kill by Cat Torres off an Adrienne Beatty set up. Husson stayed right on top of USM up to the sixth point, until the Huskies began to once again pull away to round out the match victory for Southern Maine.
Pagliarini (6 kills), Young (5 kills), and Eryka West (5 kills) led the attack for Husson as Pagliarini and Beatty earned the lone aces for the Eagles. On defense, Beatty led the team with nine digs while Hanna Honeman, Land, and West all jumped up for two blocks apiece. Assisting on the attack was Torres with 15 dishes.
