Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Husson University (1-0) blanked the University of Southern Maine (0-1), 2-0, in a non-conference field hockey matchup at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The non-conference contest was a scoreless stalemate until the 13th minute, when first-year Tegan Blackie netted her first career goal. Sophomore Leigha Carrier was credited with an assist on what proved to be the game-winning tally.
Sophomore Kayleigh Eckenrode made it a 2-0 game with her first strike of the year off a corner and a Victoria Friend pass at the 44:04 mark.
THE KEEPERS:
HU sophomore Kimmie Goddard (1-0) was not forced to make a save in the shutout victory while Southern Maine sophomore goalie Julianna Kiklis (0-1) notched eight saves in the losing bid.
TEAM STATS:
Husson held considerable leads in shots (21-3), shots on goal (10-0), and penalty corners (14-2) on the evening.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Husson is now 4-1 all-time versus University of Southern Maine and has won the last two matchups.
