Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine - The Husson University men's basketball team defeated the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF), 86-69, on Saturday afternoon.
IN THE ACTION:
Trailing 4-0 early, Husson (6-0) posted a 4-0 run with all four points coming from Cam Wood to tie the game a 4-4 with 17:53 left in the opening half. UMaine-Farmington (2-1) put together a 7-0 to give them an 11-4 advantage five minutes into the contest.
The Eagles answered with a run of their own, scoring ten straight points to claim a 14-11 edge with 11:49 left in the half. Isaac Varney had two points and DJ Bussey contributed four points, while Justin Thompson connected on a pair of layups to cap the surge.
Husson's lead reached five (20-15) two minutes later on a three-pointer by Jeremy Moronta, and the Beavers eventually pulled into two points of the visitors when Nathan Poulin completed a three-point play with 6:20 left in the half.
The Green and Gold outscored UMF 18-9 the rest of the way to build a 9-point cushion (38-29) at the break.
UMF was able to pull to within one early in the second half after Terion Moss hit a shot from downtown three minutes into the half, but Husson answered right way pushing their advantage to four when Justice Kendall connected from long range 15 seconds later. After a made free throw by Kyle Donlin cutting the visitor's lead to three at the 16:41 mark, Husson started to pull away, eventually going up by as much as 18 (82-64) after Kendall hit a jumper with 3:21 remaining in the contest.
Husson cruised the rest of the way for a 16-point triumph over the Beavers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bussey scored a game-high 20 points, while adding six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Kendall tallied 16 points, two steals, an assist and two rebounds.
- Donlin led the Beavers with 19 points. He also added two blocks, two steals, an assist and grabbed six boards.
- Moss and Jack Kane each had 12 points, while Kane recorded 10 rebounds in the setback.
