Box Score STANDISH, Maine - The Husson University women's basketball team (5-1) fell to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 61-31, on Friday night at the Harold Alfond Center.
IN THE ACTION:
The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a three from Trinity Montigny and a layup from Vanessa Duarte before the Monks stormed back to tie the game at 6-6 with 3:52 left in the first quarter, when Nina Howe hit a shot from downtown. Husson played tough defense down the stretch to take a 10-8 lead into the second stanza.
Saint Joseph's (5-0) came out strong in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles, 23-7, to take a 31-17 advantage into the half.
The start of the third quarter saw the team's trade baskets back-and-forth as Husson received a three from Emma Alley with a nice assist from Cassie Urso and a layup from Duarte before the Monks took command of the game and cruised the rest of the way for the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Stapelfeld scored a game-high 16 points for the Monks. She added two steals, an assist and three rebounds.
- Alysonn Fillion added ten points, four assists and three rebounds.
- E. Alley tallied a team-high eight points with a game-high four steals, an assist and two rebounds.
- Duarte had seven points to go along with her two steals, two assists and two rebounds.
- Luci Rothwell grabbed a team-high eight boards, while Jordan Jabar had a game-high 12 rebounds.
