Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Remaining undefeated on the season, Husson University men's basketball improved their record to 7-0 with a 75-58 win over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners (1-3) on Saturday afternoon.
IN THE ACTION:
After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Mariners held an 8-7 lead before J Thomas helped propel the Eagles into a 28-7 run, spanning eight minutes, after draining three consecutive 3-pointers. Chipping in on the run was Scott Lewis with nine points.
The Eagles led the Marines by 15 going into halftime with a score of 42-17.
Isaac Varney opened up the half with a quick uncontested layup in the opening seconds, that lit a fire in MMA, as they chipped away at the deficit over the next five minutes, cutting the Husson lead to eight points. DJ Bussey made a shot from beyond the arc to extend the Husson lead back to double digits.
The Eagles held a consistent advantage throughout the remainder of the second half, holding Maine Maritime at an arm's length of eight points. Both Varney and Bussey posted a big offensive second half with eight points apiece.
The game finished out with the Eagles barely outscoring the Mariners in the second half, 33-31, and a final score of 75-58 in the Eagles favor.
