Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - The Husson University women's basketball team continued where they left off from the weekend as they completed the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) sweep of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a 66-45 victory at Wieden Hall on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Eagles return to over .500 with a 4-3 record and 2-0 in the NAC while UMPI falls to 4-2 and winless at 0-2 in the NAC.
In the first half, the Eagles scored 15 points in each quarter to take a 30-17 lead into the locker room. In the first quarter, the Eagles led the Owls 7-5 midway through before a 10-0 run put the game away for Husson. Sophomore Makaelyn Porter led the charge in the first half with 11 points including seven in six minutes played in the first quarter. Senior Vanessa Duarte chipped in seven points in the first half while junior Bailey Donovan had four points and nine rebounds.
In the second half, the Eagles outscored the Owls 36-28 as Donovan took over. She recorded 12 rebounds and 12 points in the half en route to her fifth double-double of the season. Like Donovan, Duarte also scored 16 points while Porter led the squad with a career-high 17.
Inside the box score favors the Eagles in every way except the bench points as the Owls earned 11 points off the bench compared to the Eagles' 10. On the boards, Donovan had 21 rebounds out of the Eagles' 39 while the Owls had 26.
Emily Wheaton led the charge for the Owls with 17 of the Owls' 45 points. Alexis Ireland had nine points and Paige Espling had nine rebounds.
One more game for the team before their holiday break as they host Bates College on Monday, December 13th with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. after the men's game at 6 p.m.
