Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University field hockey team has advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference Championship game as they defeated the Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bernatchez Field on the campus of Thomas College. The Eagles improve to 8-7 on the season while the Beavers fall to 7-8.
The first half was scoreless as the Eagles best chance was on the stroke of halftime as the Eagles fired a shot into the back of the net but the shot came from just outside the circle. Both teams combined for seven shots on goal in the first thirty minutes.
Midway through the third quarter, the Eagles scored the opening goal. Leigha Carrier received the ball of the penalty corner and her shot was deflected down in front of the goal by Allie Drew and the Beaver defense put the ball into their own net. The Eagles defense held down the fort and only allowed one Beaver shot in the second half as Kimmie Goddard made six total saves for the shutout.
The Eagles will return to Bernatchez Field on Sunday, November 7th as they take on Thomas College for the third meeting this season. The NECC Championship Game will begin at 1 p.m.
