Men's Basketball Falls to New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Husson University men's basketball team dropped to 3-2 on the season after a 100-91 loss to the New England College Pilgrims at Bridges Gym on Tuesday night in non-conference action. New England College returns to .500 with a 4-4 record. 

New England College used homecourt to their advantage as they scored the first eight points but the Eagles responded back with six straight points. The teams would trade baskets as the Eagles struggled to cut the lead down under five points until six minutes left in the half. Senior J Thomas hit a jumper followed by sophomore Isaac Varney converted on a traditional three point play as the Eagles tied it at 29. The Eagles would go on to close out the quarter by outsourcing the Pilgrims, 15-11, to take a 44-40 lead into the locker room. 

In the second half, the lead would flip-flop until midway through the second half as the Pilgrims outscored the Eagles 30-21, in the final ten minutes to take the 100-91 non-conference victory over the Eagles.  

HUSSON STATS

  • Graduate student Justin Thompson scored the most points for Husson in consecutive games as he had 23 points. Thompson needs four points on Saturday, December 4th to become the 52nd member of the 1,000 point club in the program. He also tallied 16 rebounds for the double-double. 

  • Off the bench, Thomas scored 16 points in ten minutes on 7-of-11 shooting. 

  • Seniors Justice Kendall and DJ Bussey recorded 13 and 12 points respectfully

  • The Eagles outrebounded the Pilgrims, 45-42.

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE STATS 

  • Jamal Allen recorded a game-high 30 points on 7-of-15 shooting from behind the arc as he had 24 points in the second half. 

  • Calvin Cheek just shy of a triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. 

  • New England College shot 42.4% (14-for-33) from downtown while the Eagles hsot 28.6% (6-for-21). 

UP NEXT! 

Thompson will chase history as the Eagles begin North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, December 4th when the Eagles host the University of Maine at Presque Isle with tip-off scheduled at 1 p.m.
