Foss Delivers OT Winner as Field Hockey Earns Senior Day Victory over Beavers

BANGOR, MaineAdelle Foss scored five minutes into overtime to lift Husson University (7-7, 6-2 NECC) past University of Maine at Farmington (7-8, 4-4), 3-2, in a hard fought New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey contest at the Winkin Sports Complex on Saturday morning.

SENIOR DAY:

Husson recognized three seniors prior to the game for their accomplishments with the Husson University field hockey program: Ryley Newcomb, Victoria Friend and Mikenzie Parker.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 4:58 mark when Friend netted her third goal of the season off a penalty corner. Leigha Carrier was credited with an assist on the play. Husson pushed their lead two when Phoebe Joy tipped in a Carrier shot off a penalty corner eight minutes and 27 seconds later after Friend's tally.

UMF eventually got past Husson goalie Kimmie Goddard, and cutting the margin in half with 7:35 left to play in the second quarter on an unassisted goal by Ginny Twitchell.

The Beavers knotted the game at 2-2 with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter when Alex Bessey scored off an assist from Twitchell. Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter, forcing the game into overtime.

Foss ended the game in the Eagles' favor 5:57 into OT with a goal off a pass from Amanda Frost.

TEAM STATS:

UMaine-Farmington outshot Husson, 32-20, and had a 9-8 advantage in penalty corners.

THE KEEPERS:

Goddard tallied 20 saves in the victory, while Katelyn Rouleau charted seven saves in the first half; Grace DiMarco came on to start to the third quarter and logged eight stops over the remainder of the contest. 

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, the all-time series versus University of Maine at Farmington is tied at 23-23. The Eagles have defeated the Beavers in seven of the last ten meetings and have won the last ten matchups on the turf of Winkin Sports Complex.

NEXT!

This concludes the regular season for the Eagles and will learn its opponent for next weekend's NECC Field Hockey Tournament following Sunday's final regular season game between Thomas College and Manhattanville College.
