Football Holds off Late Rally to Defeat Bison, 14-12

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Husson University Eagles (6-2, 3-1) defeated Nichols College (2-6, 0-4), 14-12, on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) action at Vendetti Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Nichols led 3-0 at the end of the first as Vincent Mallozzi capped a five-play, 60-yard drive with a 21 yard field goal. A three-yard rushing touchdown by Nic Visser in the closing moments gave the Eagles a 7-3 lead heading into the intermission.

The Eagles pushed their lead to eleven when Visser found a wide open Tyler Halls for a 28-yard touchdown pass with 1:57 remaining in the third quarter. The Bison cut the deficit to 14-6 after Mallozzi booted his second field goal of the game, this time from 23-yards out.

On their next possession, Archie Killian hauled in a six-yard pass from Alpha Barry on fourth-and-four to bring the Bison to within two at 14-12. The ensuing two-point conversion failed thanks to defensive pressure from Frank Curran.

The Eagles collected three first downs on their next drive to run out the clock.
