Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - The Husson University traveled to the northern part of the state as they visited Park Family Field and came away with a 4-1 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) fixture.
With the victory, the Eagles move to the top of the NAC East table with a 5-0 conference record and 6-2-1 overall while UMPI is fifth in the table with a 1-4 conference record and 2-6 overall.
The Owls opened the contest taking the lead in the 13th minute as the Eagles turned the ball over inside their defensive zone and Alexis Ireland was able to pick up the turnover and chip the keeper for the goal. The lead didn't last long at all as a half a minute later; the Eagles equalized. The Eagles raced down the field after the resumption of play and earned a corner. Sophia Mullins took the corner and it was headed home by Shannon Dowd as it was 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles took a stranglehold on the match with three goals in a half an hour span for the 4-1 victory. A free-kick by Charlotte Messer was delivered perfectly into the box and the Eagles got their second header goal of the match thanks to Megan Buddemeyer in the 61st minute. In the 75th minute, the Eagles earned a third goal as Buddemeyer's kick went off an UMPI player and into the net for an own goal. With 90 seconds left in the match; Eagles found the fourth. A scramble inside the Owl's box led to an Eagles goal as Jaley Martin was the player who tucked it home.
Hannah Kenney made two stops as she earned her fifth victory of the season while the Owls played two keepers and they combined for 13 saves.
The team will spend the night in Caribou then make the short trip to UMaine-Fort Kent in the morning as they take on the Bengals on Sunday, October 3rd for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
