Men's Soccer Scores Seven in Victory Over Lesley

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - After two dominant performances in their past two road games; the Husson University men's soccer team returned to Boucher Field and continued that stretch. The Eagles scored early and often as the squad defeated Lesley University by the final of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference fixture.

With the victory, the Eagles move to 7-2-2 overall while the Lynx have lost their first ten games of the campaign.

Unlike their past couple performances; it didn't take long for the breakthrough. 90 seconds into the match and the Eagles had a lead when Fred Longo delivered a perfect corner kick into an unmarked Jordi Cabau and the header found the net. 90 seconds later, Cabau and the Eagles found their second. A mis-touch by a Lesley's defender in their box was capitalized by Cabau as he earned possession and chipped the keeper from 20 yards out for a 2-0 lead.

Cabau finished the hat trick in the 35th minute when Arni Hreidarsson played a brillant ball through the goal mouth and Cabau scored the easiest of tap-ins to earn himself his second hat trick of the season. Thanks to the hat trick; the Eagles led by three at the break.

In the second half, it only took eight minutes to grab a fourth. Jahmal Williams with a drive inside the box and he was taken down to earn the Eagles the spot kick. Mario Alvarez stepped up and blasted home his fourth penalty kick of the season.

Hreidarsson, who opened his scoring account in his last game this past Wednesday afternoon at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and scored twice in a 20 minute span to make it 6-0. Marcos Chanlatte had a big run down the middle of Boucher Field then slipped a ball to Hreidarsson and a simplest of finishes gave him the first goal. In the 81st minute, Gavon Fox capitalized on a Lesley turnover and slipped a perfect through ball past the defense to give Hreidarsson a 1v1 with the keeper and the Icelandic native made no mistake for his brace.

Alejandro Mora with pace down the left wing laid a ball to the top of the box and Jarod Bolton was there to smash the ball past the keeper for the seventh goal of the contest.

Benjamin Powell played the first 64 minutes and made a save for the victory while Spencer Bernat came in for the final 27 minutes and also made a save as the team earned the clean sheet.

Head Coach Gavin Penny added, "It's another great win for us today. This team is getting better and better each day. The lads are really working hard and trusting in one another. They are working so hard on the training pitch and committed to executing each game plan. It is a joy to lead such an awesome group of men and watch them having fun playing together. Some of these goals we have scored today were very well worked and executed perfectly. We were very deserving winners on the day and we are looking forward to our showdown against UNE on Tuesday."

It's the final non-conference game of the schedule on Tuesday, October 5th as the lads will travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
