Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team celebrated senior day in style with a 7-2 win over Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field. The Eagles continue to lead the North Atlantic Conference table after their seventh conference win of the season while the Hornets remain winless in the NAC at 0-8.
Prior to the match, head coach Gavin Penny and his coaching staff recognized and roasted his five seniors: Rafael Paganoni, Joao Passoni, Jahmal Williams, Andy Pircairn, and Benjamin Powell.
The seniors played a big part into today's match as a senior either scored or assisted on each Eagle goal. Jahmal Williams got the party started as he scored four minutes in then assisted on Pedro Molina's second goal of the season from a corner kick.
The Joao Passoni show started in the 11th minute as he played a part in three goals in a five minute span. The Brazilian scored two and assisted on Arni Hreidarsson's seventh goal of the season as the Eagles led by five just 15 minutes into the game.
The Hornets got on the board with two quick goals on counter attacks as they cut the lead down to 5-2 in the 24th minute.
In the 32nd minute, Williams added his second goal of the game and his third of the season with the assist coming from Powell and that scoreline would hold at halftime.
In the 57th minute, the Eagles closed out the scoring as Passoni got his hat trick and his eighth goal of the season from Nate Chamberland.
Penny was pleased with the performance. "It was another proficient performance in front of goal. We were clinical in front of goal and executed our actions well. Again we enjoyed another comfortable game with all the possession. The lads worked hard to move the ball and break down Lyndon while playing almost the entire game in their half of the field. I am thrilled for our seniors who put in some wonderful displays and getting their just rewards for their efforts. It was a bitter sweet day because we will certainly miss these lads next year. It was nice that we were able to let players rest, while protecting others ahead of next weekends game and the playoffs. Once again, we showed the quality in our squad as lads stepped in to get a great result."
One final regular season match for the lads and it takes place on Saturday, October 23rd when they travel down Ritchie Field to take on Maine Maritime Academy for a NAC East Divisional match. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
