Men's Soccer Earns 4-0 NAC Victory at Thomas (ME)

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine - For the first time since November of 2014, the Husson University men's soccer team defeated the Thomas College Terriers at Smith Field on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference action. With the victory, the Eagles move alone atop of the North Atlantic Conference East Division table at a 6-0-1 record while the Terriers fall to second place with a 6-1 record. Overall, the Eagles are 10-2-3 and the Terriers are 8-2.

The Eagles were on the front foot early on and dominated possession before being rewarded in the 15th minute when a cross from Jarod Bolton from the streaking Jordi Cabau at the back post for a smasher of a volley and a 1-0 lead. Cabau's 15th of the season as he extends his lead in the NAC Golden Boot race. Ten minutes later and the lead doubled. An Eagles corner was cleared out only to the top of the box where Jarod Bolton scored an absolute screamer by Jarod Bolton to double the lead just before the break.

In the second half, it was more of the same from Husson. Eagles on the counter and scored as a over the top ball from Alejandro Mora was taken down by Arni Hreidarsson and the Iceland native chipped the keeper for the 3-0 lead. The game was put to bed by Jahmal Williams in the 73rd minute when he danced around a defender and the keeper to score an easy empty netter as the Eagles dominated for the 4-0 victory.

With the shutout, Alex Rechsteiner records his second straight clean sheet.

Head coach Gavin Penny shares his remarks after the victory, "I am very pleased by our performance tonight. This game has been on our radar for some time and our performances have been progressively improving. Tonight I felt we were at our best. We defended well, we took control of the ball, we used it well, and we finished our chances. I typically don't give special mentions to players because it was a great team performance but when recognition is so stat driven, some players go unnoticed. However, I thought Mosi Masimango was unbelievable tonight. He was absolutely solid and dominated the area in front of the back line. It is a joy to watch this team play. They fully deserved the win."

For the final time during the regular season the Eagles will play on Boucher Field on Saturday, October 16th when they host Northern Vermont-Lyndon for a 12 p.m. match. The Eagles will honor their seniors before the match.
