Husson Women's Basketball Extends Undefeated NAC Record to 12-0 with 56-48 Win over UMF

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – A late comeback attempt by the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers (12-11, 9-3 NAC) was squashed by the Husson University women's basketball team (15-8, 12-0 NAC) as they held onto their perfect record in conference action with the 56-48 win on Friday evening.

IN THE ACTION:

A team effort from the starters, including a trio of jumpers from Joan Overman, helped Husson jump ahead, 22-11, by the end of the opening quarter. The Beavers stepped up their intensity on defense in the second quarter as neither team was able to hit double-digits by the end of the ten minutes heading into the break, with the Eagles holding onto a strong ten-point advantage, 30-20.

A pair of buckets from Sami Ireland and Bailey Donovan helped extend Husson's cushion to 15 points, 38-23, not even three minutes into the quarter. A 10-3 run for the Beavers helped bring them back within single digits, 43-35, over the next six minutes before closing out the third quarter trailing, 48-35.

Nearly three and a half minutes ticked off the clock before anyone scored in the final frame, as Husson's Donovan was able to drive the hoop sinking a layup. Four minutes later, and UMaine-Farmington had held the Eagles scoreless nearly the entire period as they advanced into the final two minutes on a 13-0 run (50-48) before a Sydney Allen free throw broke the offensive silence for the Eagles. An Overman jumper and pair of made free throws by Emma Alley helped the Eagles take a deep breath as they closed out the final two minutes on a 6-0 run to hold onto the 56-48 conference victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Overman led the charge for Husson, sinking 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting while grabbing four rebounds.
  • Donovan and Ireland both contributed 13 points in the effort while the rookie grabbed a career and season-high 20 boards and six blocks.
  • Tying for the game-high in points, McKenna Brodeur pitched in 14 points for the Beavers while adding on eight rebounds.
  • Husson held a 48-36 advantage in rebounds and never relinquished their lead throughout the entire game.
