Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - A late comeback bid by the Eagles (14-8, 11-0 NAC) came up as short as they fell to the Colby College Mules (8-14, 2-7 NESCAC) by a score of 60-56 on Tuesday night in their final non-conference match-up of the season.
IN THE ACTION:
The Eagles opened the scoring by taking an 8-2 lead with 3:21 remaining in the first frame, before Colby battled back with back-to-back three pointers from Ainsley Burns and Brooke Guiffre to tie the game at eight. Sydney Allen gave the Eagles a three point advantage (11-8) as the visitors held onto a 12-11 lead to end the first quarter. A 14-7 second quarter run by the Mules handed them their first lead of the evening and sent the Eagles to the locker room trailing 25-19 at the half.
A back and forth second half ensued as Allen drained a shot from downtown to cut the home team's lead to six before Burns answered with a three-pointer of her own. A lay-up with 1:25 remaining in the quarter would bump the Eagles within five, 40-35, heading into the final frame. Vaneesa Duarte swished a shot from behind the arc to bring the green and gold within two (41-39) with 8:21 to go, but that would be as close as the Eagles would come to regaining the lead as they ultimately fell to Colby, 60-56.
