Husson Men's Basketball Falls to SUNY Canton, 82-63

CANTON, N.Y. -  The Husson University men's basketball team (6-11, 4-3 NAC) was defeated by the SUNY Canton Roos (11-8, 7-1 NAC) on Saturday afternoon for the second time this weekend by the final score of, 82-63. 

IN THE ACTION:
A Justin Thompson layup were the only points the Eagles saw in the opening six minutes of the game as they trailed 17-2. Over the course of the next nine minutes, Husson brought the score within 12 points as Justice Kendall drained a free basket, 26-14. The Eagles continued to double their points on the scoreboard in the final four minutes of the first half to cut the deficit to 39-27, led by five consecutive points from Brett Cunnigham. 

Husson cut the lead to five (47-42) using a 15-8 run in the opening six minutes of the second half. The Roos responded with an 8-0 run to regain a double digit advantage. Sticking in the game, the Green and Gold trimmed the deficit to seven with 9:23 to play but an 11-0 Canton run over the next five minutes put the Roos up 18 with 4:21 to play and put the game out of reach to wrap up their 82-63 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Scott Lewis hit double-digits for his sixth time this season, pacing the Eagles with 15 points, five blocks, seven boards and 6-for-6 shooting from the charity stripe.

  • Derek Collin displayed a consistent game from the field, going 5-for-6 with ten points on the afternoon for the Eagles.

  • The Roos shot 43.1% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range for the game, while Husson hit 35.1% from the field, respectively.

  • Canton controlled the glass 46-30 while Husson capitalized on 18 points from turnovers.

  • DuBois led all players with 21 points and added eight rebounds on 8-for-13 shooting. Santana supplied 19 points including a 10-for-11 mark from the free throw line for the Roos.

The Eagles will return home and host the Beavers of UMaine-Farmington for the 60th time in program history on Friday, January 31st at Newman Gymnasium with tip-off schedule for 7:30 p.m.
