Eagles Remain Undefeated on Home Court with 77-43 Win over Broncos

BANGOR, Maine - Behind a 23-point performance from first-year Bailey Donovan, the Husson women's basketball team (7-7, 4-0 NAC) defeated the visiting SUNY Delhi Broncos (3-15), 77-43, in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon.

IN THE ACTION:

Samiaya Salley opened the scoring with a jump shot off a Katelyn Lewis pass, before Sydney Allen hit a shot from downtown that would jumpstart the Eagles 19-7 run to close out the first quarter leading 22-9. Allen contributed an additional three-pointer, while Vanessa Duarte found herself 3-3 from the charity stripe when she was fouled as time expired. 

Strong offensive play from the Eagles continued in the second quarter, as Donovan would score nine of her game-high 23 points. Joan Overman limited the offensive opportunities for the visitors, contributing four rebounds and two steals in the quarter to keep the Eagles up 45-22 heading into the locker room. 

The Eagles picked up right where they left off before halftime, going on a 13-0 run, before Salley found an opening in the defense and knocked down a three-pointer with 4:29 remaining in the third to bring the score to 58-23. SUNY Delhi outscored the Eagles, 13-9 in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as the Eagles came away with a 77-43 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Bailey Donovan scored a game-high 23 points, shooting 11-13 (84.6%) from the floor, adding six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. 

  • Megan Peach contributed a game-high ten rebounds, seven points and one steal.

  • Emma Alley dished out four assists, ten points and a steal in the victory. 

  • For the Broncos, junior Kiera Holland recorded her 1000th career point in the fourth quarter to add on to her 16 points on the the afternoon.

The Eagles will resume North Atlantic Conference action on Friday, January 17th, with a matchup at Maine Maritime Academy. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
