Box Score LEWISTON, Maine - The #14 Bates College Bobcats stifled the Eagles, 5-1, Tuesday night on Campus Avenue Field. With the loss, Husson falls to 3-3 on the season, as the nationally ranked team broke a three-game winning streak for the Eagles.
IN THE ACTION:
Wasting no time at all, Riley Burns started off the opening minute of the night with her third goal of the season to give Bates an immediate 1-0 lead. The constant pressure by the Bobcats resulted in a Paige Cote goal just minutes later to double their lead to 2-0. Bates racked up seven shots, while Husson was only able to slip through one shot on goal during the opening quarter.
The Bobcat's pressure didn't let up in the second quarter, as they continued to add cushion creating a 4-0 advantage. Bridget Thompson tallied Bates' third goal with 9:50 left in the half followed by an unassisted goal from Grace Fitzgerald.
Husson cut into the lead midway through the third quarter as first-year forward Adelle Foss got Husson on the board as Karen Stemm made a run down the left wing of Bates' circle and fired toward goal. A quick reaction from Foss helped redirect the ball deflecting off her stick past Bates' goalie Grace Biddle and inside the far-right post to make the score 4-1. This marks Foss' fifth tally of the season and Stemm's first assist and the only goal Husson snuck past the Bobcats.
Bates added a fifth definitive goal in the final frame following up an impressive save by Husson's goaltender Kimmie Goddard on a two-on-one attack.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Goddard made seven stops for the Eagles playing the entire 60 minutes in net. Bates split time between Ellie Bauer in the first half and Biddle finishing out the win.
