Men's Soccer Drops Defensive Battle with Wentworth, 1-0

Box Score

BOSTON - Wentworth Institute of Technology (1-0-0) edged Husson University (0-0-1), 1-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game at Sweeney Field on Friday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Wentworth broke the scoreless stalemate with an impressive individual effort by Juan Cedeno, who received a lateral pass from Jomar Martins, and unleashed a shot bouncing off several bodies before sneaking inside the right post at the 73:52 mark.

Head coach Gavin Penny reflects, "I was encouraged by the performance today. I thought we competed well throughout and in the end came up short. It was difficult for us to play our game, the opposition continued to play long balls in over the top and force our guys to win headers over and over again. It was like a boxing match where they just kept throwing punches until they got their knockout. We had a lot of new players playing in their first collegiate outing and we still have a couple of players out who could have helped us tremendously today. All in all, I was encouraged by our performance and I'm looking forward to Tuesday's game."

THE KEEPERS:

Kyle Townsend made six saves in net for the Eagles, including three stops in a two minute span late in the first half. Townsend also made a huge save on Nathan Gosselin's mini-breakaway to keep the game scoreless at the 61st minute mark.

Wentworth netminder Robbie West recorded four saves.
