Eagles Prepare for NAC Tournament after Concluding Regular Season Action with 72-58 Win over MMA

CASTINE, Maine - The Husson University Eagles (15-10, 11-3 NAC) finished out the regular season on a high note picking up a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory, 72-58, as they defeated Maine Maritime Academy (11-13, 7-7 NAC) on the road Tuesday night. Justin Martin helped secure the win as he achieved a career milestone, scoring his 1000th point off a 3-pointer in the first half to become the 50th Eagle to join the club. 

1st Half:

It was a hard-fought game throughout the first half, as the Mariners held onto a lead nearly until halftime, despite the Eagles evening the score twice. It wasn't until Justice Kendall drained a 3-pointer with 3:06 left before the first half clock ran out, the Eagles battled back to their first advantage of the game, 24-23. The two teams faced off from behind the 3-point arc over the next minute, swapping the lead. 

The Eagles' scoring was spread out evenly throughout the first half, as Thompson, Kendall, and Martin all put up five points each. Husson began to pull away in the final minutes, capturing a four-point lead heading into halftime with a score of 35-31. 

2nd Half:

Husson managed to hold a slight advantage for the remainder of the night, but Maine Maritime never gave as they clawed their way back within one point with less than nine minutes remaining as Adam Richardson hit an and-one to bring the score to 53-52. A Kyanti Blyden layup sparked an 11-0 run to help Husson build a game-high advantage of 15 points with just 3:20 left to play. Husson overtook Maine Maritime by the final score of 72-58. 

Husson Leaders:

DJ Bussey ended the night with 14 points and three assists.

Justice Kendall finished with 13 points on 5-6 from the field and snatching up four steals.

Kyanti Blyden tallied 12 points off the bench, along with five boards and four steals.

Justin Martin joined the HU 1000-point club as the senior netted five points, seven rebounds and two blocks. 

Maine Maritime Leaders:

Adam Richardson led the Mariners with 22 points, shooting 7-10 from the charity stripe, while also dishing six assists, and picking up seven rebounds.

Riley Jorgenson and Kimani Anderson both poured in 13 points apiece.

The Eagles concluded their regular season with a NAC record of 11-3 and an overall record of 15-10, as they prepare to advance to the NAC Tournament. Playoff seedings will be announced on Wednesday evening after the conclusion of all conference regular season contests.
