BANGOR, Maine -  Escaping overtime by one minute and six seconds, the Husson women's soccer team (6-5-1, 5-1-1 NAC) drew a penalty in the box at an opportune moment to lift the Eagles above the Thomas College Terriers (4-9-1, 3-3-1 NAC) to the tune of 2-1 for a conference victory on a chilly Wednesday evening at Boucher Field.

IN THE ACTION:

The players on the field tonight put in the work, seeing plenty of chances in the first half by both teams with endless counterattacks running back-and-forth to each endline. Thomas kicked off the scoring when number Terrier Katherine Hoving went down in the goal box resulting in Thomas being awarded a penalty kick with under a minute remaining in the opening half. Hoving took the kick and didn't fake out Husson goalkeeper Jenna Dietenhofer-Diamond as she dove just above a low shot to the left, as the ball hit the back of the net. 

Husson tallied the equalizer early in the second half when number Alexa Thayer scored off a cross which ricocheted off of several players before finding the boot of the Husson midfielder to bring the score to 1-1. 

With a fitting ending to even the playing field, Husson was also awarded a penalty kick with barely a minute left to play. Bri Saulter stepped up to take the decisive shot of the game and put it away into the back of the net with ease to wrap up the game with Husson closing out with the edge of Thomas, 2-1.

IN BETWEEN THE POSTS:

Husson goalkeeper Dietenhofer-Diamond had seven saves on the night, while Thomas' goalie Isabelle Lang stopped four shots in the close game.

The Eagles final game of the season is at home against the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls (7-4-2, 2-3-1 NAC) to close out conference play. The senior night game will kick off at 8:00 p.m. under the lights at Boucher Field.
