Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Husson field hockey (0-5-0) not only had to battle nationally ranked #8 Bowdoin College (5-0-0) on their home turf on Tuesday evening, but the Eagles also had to fight through around 90 minutes of delay for a thunder and lightning storm with the first strike occurring with 1:44 left on the clock in the first half. Arika Brochu scored the lone goal for Husson as they fell to Bowdoin, 5-1.
THE SCOOP:
Elizabeth Growney and Emma Stevens lit up the field for the Polar Bears, alternating scoring while helping each other with assists. Concluding the first half, each had recorded a single goal leading the Eagles 2-0, but by the end of the long night, Stevens had earned a hat trick and Growney tallied a pair.
In the 43rd minute, following a Husson penalty corner taken by Mercedes Pease, a flurry of action happened in front of Bowdoin's net with Brochu coming out on top with the goal thanks to a pass by Haley Ward, for both of their first points this season.
IN BETWEEN THE POSTS:
Andrea Shaggy finished out the night with 14 saves in between the posts for Husson while on the other side, Maddie Ferucci started the opening 45:26 in net, recording one save while giving up the lone goal. Eva Verzani stepped in to close out the remaining minutes capturing a single save.
TEAM STATS:
Bowdoin had the advantage of taking 13 penalty corners to Husson's three.
