Volleyball Caps Off Season Falling to MMA in NAC Semifinals

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball boasted a three-set victory over Husson University on Friday night in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal match inside of Smith Gymnasium.

Maine Maritime Academy 3 – Husson University 0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-17) 

 

The Mariners jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set, forcing the Eagles to call a timeout. The Eagles scored back-to-back points, to cut the gap to 15-5, but Maine Maritime's early lead proved to be too large and the hosts took the set 25-14.  

Maine Maritime took a 9-2 lead in the second set, but the Eagles fought back to cut the lead to 12-8. The Mariners responded, claiming the 25-13 set victory to take a 2-0 edge in the match.

The two teams battled closely in the third set, but the Mariners took the semifinal victory with a 25-17 set win.

Jessica D'Auria led the Mariners with 12 kills and seven digs, while NAC First Team All-Conference selection Alexa Cacacie tallied 10 kills, three digs, two aces and a block. NAC Defensive Player of the Year Maria Perez led all players with 16 digs, NAC Player of the Year and Sydney Adams contributed a match-high 34 assists, to go with seven digs, six kills, and a block. 

Mary Grace Power led the Eagles with eight kills, two digs and a block, while Second Team All-Conference selection Hanna Hembrow recorded 13 assists, five digs and a block and Second Team All-Conference selection Adrienne Beatty led Husson with 11 digs, and added two aces.

The top-seeded Mariners improved to 21-6 overall, advancing to their 12th straight NAC Championship on Saturday, November 3rd at 12:00 pm, while the fourth-seeded Eagles concluded their season at 5-19 overall.
