Men's Soccer Falls to the Terriers, 3-0

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team fell to Thomas College, 3-0, in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Waterville, Maine.

In the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-3 (0-1 NAC) while the Terriers improve 3-3 (1-0 NAC).

Both teams battled hard in the first half. Saker Ghanayem connected well with a Husson cross in the 7th minute but headed the ball just outside the left post. In the 23rd minute, Thomas took the lead 1-0. Nawfal El-Antri curled a free kick into the top left corner of the goal. Husson had an opportunity to answer when Caballero went one on one with the keeper but Jonathan Dutka was able to save the effort. At half, the Terriers lead 1-0.

The Eagles continued to try and break down their opponent in the second half. In the 49th minute, Rod Ghanayem headed a cross from a free kick inside the Thomas' penalty box but goalie John Villanueva was able to save it. As Husson pushed forward to equalize the game, the Terriers were able to attack.

Michael Sanzari scored on a pass from Shammah Gahomera, curling the ball around the hands of Cody Gross. Four minutes later, Tevin Reid dribbled around Husson defenders and scored the last goal of the game. Thomas collected the 3-0 win.

In the defeat, Husson outshot the Terriers 19-11. Gross made six saves for the Eagles, while Dutka tallied four and Villanueva recorded three for the Terriers.

"Obviously we are very disappointed with the result," said head coach Gainv Penny. "We worked hard and battled but didn't have the quality needed to score goals. We have to learn from our mistakes and not keep making the same errors over and over. It's tremendously disappointing to have outworked a team over the distance and come up short again. We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves because we have another conference match on Tuesday night." U

The Eagles return to Boucher field on Tuesday, September 19 in a conference matchup against UMaine- Farmington for a 5:00 p.m. game.
