WINTER HAVEN, FL. – The Husson University baseball team (2-2) defeated the Clark University (Mass.) Cougars (5-2) 9-3, on Tuesday afternoon, thanks in part to two separate three run innings.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Eagles found the scoreboard first. Alex Chapman was on base, due to a hit-by-pitch, when Sam Huston's spot in the line-up came around. Huston lined a single, scored Chapman, and gave Husson a 1-0 advantage after 4 innings of play.

Clark answered back in the top of the 5th. With runners on second and third, Jake Good singled. Only Collin Porter scored on the hit. David Rotando now had a chance to do some damage with the bases loaded. He also singled while driving in two runs. The Cougars led 3-1.

Alex Chapman would not be out done. He doubled in the bottom of the 5th inning with runners on first and second. Cam Archer came around to score, while Mike Wong advanced to third. Ryan Rebar, next up, joined the hit parade with a single of his own. Wong and Chapman scored. Rebar would cross home plate later due to an error by Kyle Bonicki. Husson led 5-3 after the 5th.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Conor Maguire and Sam Huston each, respectively, smacked an RBI single. Conor Maguire scored the third run. It was unearned. Chapman, in the 7th, drove in the 9th and final run for the Eagles. Husson would hold onto the 9-3 lead for the rest of the game.

Alex Chapman, Ryan Rebar, and Sam Huston all pushed across two RBI for their squad. Conor Maguire was responsible for the other RBI. Maguire, Wong, and Chapman each crossed the plate two times. Ben Holmes earned the win for Husson while going 7 innings, giving up three runs, striking out two, and walking two. Dustin Smith and Jacob Gauvin both threw one inning, a piece, in relief.

David Rotando paced the Cougars with one hit and two RBI. Jake Good chipped in one RBI of his own in the loss. Cam Smith was pegged with the loss. He went five innings, gave up five runs (four earned), struck out four, and walked one. Dan Shaw came in for Smith and gave up three earned over 0.2 innings.
