Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. - The Husson baseball team (4-4) ended their Florida trip with one win and one loss against WPI (5-3) on Friday morning. The Eagles won the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 5-4 and lost the second, 12-3, on the final day of their spring trip.

Game 1: Husson 5, WPI 4

Husson wasted little time scoring runs in the first game of their double dip. Mike Wong and Alex Chapman both reached base in the top of the first. Ryan Rebar lined a double to the fence that scored Wong and Chapman. Christian Corneil extended the Eagles lead to 3-0 with a one out RBI single. Rebar scored on the base knock.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Nick Comei of WPI laced a one out home run to narrow the Husson lead to 3-1.

The Eagles got that run back in the top of 5th. Conor Maguire stood on second base while Rebar stepped into the box. The Husson clean-up hitter came through in the clutch, once again, and ripped an RBI single into the outfield. Maguire scored to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

WPI tied the ballgame in the bottom of the 5th inning with back-to-back-to-back RBI hits. Nick Comei was credited with an RBI single, while Steven Gallagher and Matt Howard each knocked RBI doubles.

Logan Rogerson singled to lead off the top of the 6th inning. With two outs, Mike Wong saw his long fly ball find the gap and roll to the fence. Rogerson came around to score the game winning run, and Wong ended up on third for a game-winning RBI triple.

Ben Walls went the distance for his second win of 2017. Over the seven innings, he allowed four earned runs, struck out six, and walked one. Ryan Rebar led the way for the Eagles' offense with three RBI. Mike Wong and Christian Corneil each chipped in one RBI.

Steven D'Agostino started the game for WPI. He went 4.2 innings, gave up four earned runs, and struck out four. Dan Bettgole was tabbed with the loss as he gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Game 2: Husson 3, WPI 12

WPI led off game two with two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Steven Gallagher and Matt Howard recorded back-to-back RBI doubles to give their squad a 2-0 lead. They added another run in the top of the 2nd with a Connor Kurtz sacrifice bunt. Evan Lacroix scored on the bunt.

The Eagles cut the WPI lead to 3-2 with Luke Covey's two RBI double. Christian Corneil and Sam Huston each walked previously then scored on the double.

Errors and wild pitches led to a six run 4th inning for WPI. Gallagher knocked in two more runs on a double, while Anthony Capuano smashed a three-run home run to extend their lead to 9-2. Austin Lindner scored the 10th run on a bases loaded walk in the 5th inning.

Alex Chapman tried to mount an Eagles' comeback with a RBI single in the 7th, but it was too little too late. WPI held onto a 12-3 lead and split the doubleheader.

Luke Covey paced the Husson offense with one hit and two RBI. Alex Chapman continued his hot spring with two hits and one RBI. Austin Smith took the loss. He went 4.0 innings, gave up nine runs (six earned), and struck out one. Blake Slicer finished the game while giving up three runs (one earned) and striking out one.
