Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Husson University (2-0) defeated UMaine-Presque Isle (2-1), 78-70, in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Wieden Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon.
FIRST GLANCE:
Husson's senior guard Raheem Anderson tallied a game-high 30 points while shooting 11-21 from the field in the victory against the Owls, who could not get within three points in the second half.
THE REST OF THE STORY:
Husson held a 34-32 lead heading into intermission and extended the advantage to seven points (43-36) when sophomore guard Justin Smith drilled a three-pointer at the 17:21 mark. Over the following four minutes, UMaine-Presque Isle chipped away at the deficit with a 6-2 run as a Ronkevis Clardy lay-up made it a 47-44 game.
The complexion of the contest quickly changed however, as the Eagles responded with a 7-0 surge of their own, with a Justin Thompson jumper extending the visitors' advantage to a seven-point lead (54-47) with 10:00 left. The lead would stay between seven and 10 points for the Eagles as they would hold onto a 78-70 lead for their second win of the 2017-18 season.
LEADERS – HUSSON:
- Senior guard Mitch Worcester registered 15 points and four rebounds while dishing out two assists and making three 3-point attempts.
- Thompson was 4-9 from field and netted nine points.
- Junior forward Justin Martin added seven points and a game high 11 boards.
LEADERS – UMaine-Presque Isle:
- Deandre Duncombe contributed a team-high 23 points with six rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Kevin Collins was 4-11 from the floor with 13 points.
TEAM STATS:
UMaine-Presque Isle held the lead in rebounds (39-35), assists (16-10), and blocks (2-1), while Husson posted advantages in steals (7-2) and forced turnovers (15-7).
