Box Score WASHINGTON - The Husson University football defeated Gallaudet University 48-21 this afternoon in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action at Gallaudet's Hotchkiss Field.
Husson (6-1, 4-0 ECFC) wins its 11th straight ECFC game dating back to November 14, 2015 and the program's second-ever victory over the Bison in Washington, D.C., while Gallaudet (2-5, 2-2 ECFC) drops its fourth consecutive game to the Eagles and the all-time series is now tied at 5-5.
FOR HUSSON:
- John Smith carried the ball 23 times for 186 yards (8.1 yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns and caught one pass for 40 yards.
- Chuck Browne rushed 13 times for 53 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
- Cory Brandon completed 18-of-25 pass attempts for 296 yards and a touchdown pass.
- Kyle Gaudet led all receivers with a career high seven catches for career high 151-yards - the second most receiving yards in a single-game in program history - and a touchdown.
- Kyree Calli had six catches on the afternoon 50 yards, both career highs.
- Christian Mowrer led the Husson defense with nine tackles (7 solo) and one sack.
- Elvin Suazo, Jr. added eight tackles (7 solo) and a sack.
- Luke Washburn finished the day with five stops and his first career block punted.
FOR BISON:
- Darrion Green led the Bison with 58 rushing yards on nine carries
- Joell Dixon finished the game with 10 rushes for 56 yards
- Mason Gooch led the Bison defense with 10 tackles
- Louie Akuffo added nine tackles
GAME REVIEW:
- After a scoreless first quarter, back-to-back rushing touchdowns by John Smith gave Husson a 14-0 lead before Gallaudet scored its first touchdown right before halftime when DeMichael Shelbon rumbled in from two yards out to cut the Eagles' lead in half, 14-7.
- Husson broke open the game with a 21-point third quarter behind two John Smith's rushing touchdowns and a 70-yard touchdown strike by Cory Brandon to Kyle Gaudet at the 8:47 mark.
- In the fourth the Bison scored on two touchdowns passes by Bryce Marion. The first one, a 24-yard passes to L.J. Watson and the second one, a 46-yard strike to RJ Randle, splitting two Eagle two-yard touchdown runs, by Chuck Browne and Jordan Marcano.
TEAM STATS:
- Husson had 575 yards of total offense while GU tallied 284 yards of offense
- The Eagles did not make a punt in the game and also scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the second half.
- The Husson defense was particularly tough on third down, allowing the Bison to convert on just two of their 13 attempts (15%).
UP NEXT:
Husson will continue its road trip next Saturday by traveling to Paxton, Mass. for a 1:00 p.m. ECFC game with Anna Maria (1-6, 1-3 ECFC).
Gallaudet will close out its home schedule next Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon against Dean (3-3, 1-2 ECFC).
